I remember that Heise online, Europe‘s biggest and most important computer and internet channel, reduced the site dramatically and used more servers for the enormous traffic after the terroristic attac. People wanted to get news to 9/11. That was in a time where Amazon AWS/S3 (or other products from different vendors to increase the power of the platform in just as a second) wasn’t there.
My mother and father in law where in the USA at this time and didn‘t know how to come back to Germany. The state of emergency which started then is still alive in the USA.
